VMAC has announced changes to the organization of its Senior Management team, appointing former President Jim Hogan to Chief Executive Officer, and Tod Gilbert, former Executive Vice President to President. 

​Daimler Trucks North America Announces Changes in Senior Management

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced that David Carson, currently president of Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC), has been appointed president of Western Star Trucks and chief diversity officer of DTNA. Carson succeeds Kelley Platt who has been promoted within the Daimler AG global organization to president and chief executive officer of Daimler's truck joint venture Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. (BFDA) in China.

Making the case for workplace wellness programs

Hamilton, ON - Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) --- To help employers better understand the value of workplace wellness programs, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has launched the e-course, Business Case for Workplace Wellness. JCB brings new products and innovations to ICUEE

JCB has confirmed that the Teleskid, Hydradig 110W tool carrier, 3CX Compact backhoe loader and 48Z-1 compact excavator, will be on display at the 2017 International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) in Louisville, Kentucky, from October 3-5. The company will also demonstrate its 509-45 Loadall telescopic handler with a radio remote-control work platform and preview its new 503-13 Loadall sub-compact telehandler, which will be launched in 2018.

Vermeer Corporation Announces Its Acquisition of McLaughlin Group, Inc.

Vermeer Corporation has announced its acquisition of the remaining non-Vermeer interests of McLaughlin Group, Inc., a leader in the drill tooling and vacuum excavation industry. Vermeer took an initial vested position in McLaughlin in 2012, when it acquired a minority interest in the Greenville, South Carolina company. "Our initial investment in McLaughlin created the ideal opportunity to determine how the company culture and product portfolio fit within our organization," said Jason Andringa, president and CEO at Vermeer Corporation. "Now, we look forward to having the McLaughlin team and the products they design and manufacture become part of the comprehensive solution Vermeer provides to the utility market. This is especially important in the area of soft-dig excavation where we see demand for equipment and expertise continuing to grow today and well into the future."

Final double breakthrough at the Emscher sewer

With the breakthrough of the last two tunnel boring machines into the target pit in Oberhausen-Biefang on June 12, 2017 the tunnel and pipe jacking work for the Emscher sewer has been completed. Over a period of 25 years numerous Herrenknecht tunnelling machines and a wide range of additional equipment were successfully used in the Europe-wide unique environmental and sewage project of Emschergenossenschaft.

Bulls Bridge Replacement Penstock

In the early 1900s, the New Milford Power Company successfully completed the first commercially viable hydroelectric power plant on the Housatonic River in Connecticut.  The project, Bulls Bridge Development, broke ground in spring 1902 and was in operation by 1903. Bulls Bridge was named after the Bull family that had lived in the area for generations. 

Herrenknecht tunnel borers continue success story in L.A.

Los Angeles is a vibrant center of international film art and innovation - not just on the surface. The area below ground is the scene of state-of-the-art engineering achievements. German high-tech machines from Herrenknecht are creating underground arteries for the American city. Tunnel boring machine (TBM) , Harriet successfully completed her drive for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project in April 2017. Angeli just finished digging the first of two tunnels for the Regional Connector Transit Corridor on July 18th. From spring 2018 onward the tunnel boring stars will have additional company: for each of the "Purple Line Extension Sections 1 + 2", two more Herrenknecht TBMs will be working their way through the difficult ground. All three projects are part of the strategic subway extension in L.A. to relieve the traffic above ground.

Mexico City’s Record-Breaking Crossover TBM makes Final Breakthrough

In June , a select group of project officials, including Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto, celebrated the final breakthrough of an epic tunneling project.  The 8.7 m (28.5 ft) diameter Robbins Crossover TBM is the first such hybrid machine to operate in North America, and it completed the Túnel Emisor Poniente (TEP) II on a high note.  The TBM, known an XRE—a Crossover (X) between Rock (R) and EPB (E) TBMs—navigated fault zones, variable ground, low cover, and more to achieve a national record of 57 m (187 ft) in one day as well as maximum rates of 231 m (758 ft) in one week and 702 m (2,303 ft) in one month. 

Going deep in the nation’s capital

Gilmour Street, located south-southeast of downtown Ottawa, runs through the area of the nation's capital called Centretown. It's mostly residential with some businesses mixed in, and is situated between the Ottawa River and the historic Rideau Canal.

Remote charging stations allow drones to handle long-range data collection missions

SkyX has installed its first production xStation, a unit that remotely recharges SkyX drones during missions. The xStation is a rugged, all-metal piece of engineering designed to allow the SkyOne drone to remotely recharge while monitoring long-range infrastructure, then continue its mission. By installing multiple xStations along a route, SkyOne can monitor assets like oil and gas pipelines or railroad tracks that stretch hundreds - even thousands - of kilometres.

TT Technologies to display full line of trenchless tools and equipment at CONEXPO

TT Technologies will be displaying its full line of trenchless piercing tools, pipe ramming tools and pipe bursting tools, at CONEXPO 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. Attendees will be able to see the complete line of trenchless equipment including the Grundoburst static pipe bursting system and Grundocrack pneumatic pipe bursting tools.

The Grundoburst static pipe bursting system utilizes a specially designed bladed cutter head to make bursting ductile iron and steel pipe possible. The Grundoburst systems range in size from 45 to 287 tons of pullback force and can be used to burst pipe from 4 to 48 inches. Grundocrack pneumatic pipe bursting tools can be used to burst fracturable pipe from 4 to 54 inches in diameter. Grundoram pneumatic pipe ramming tools can be used to ram steel casings ranging in size from 6 through 144 inches in diameter.

Microsoft and Facebook to build new subsea cable across the Atlantic Ocean

Completion of trackwork for the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension

A special event was held to celebrate the completion of trackwork in the new Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) tunnels and stations where a total of 17.4 kilometres of track and four sections of special track have been installed. Dignitaries walked down into the station to track level where they participated in a ceremonial tapping in of the last clips that hold the rails in place.
