MAINLINE AND LATERAL LAUNCH SYSTEM

INSPECT MAINLINES AND LATERALS WITH GREATER EASE AND SPEED

Perform inspections in 6-inch to 24-inch pipelines from a single integrated unit. Locatable via a built-in 512 Hz sonde, the system features a colour pan and tilt mainline zoom camera, auto upright lateral camera, rear view camera and tilt-up connector. A launch camera actuator allows for easy insertion into 90-degree laterals and the dedicated 90-watt motor produces amazing pushing force for lateral inspections up to 100 feet from the mainline. The six-wheel drive tractor features three forward speeds, reverse and freewheel with speeds up to 70 feet per minute.

Also included in the system is a cable reel with 600 feet of cable (100 feet of push cable and 500 feet of 3/16-inch diameter armored Sincon cable) for easy manhole to manhole inspections. The 1500 series controller produces high-quality video to either a picture-in-picture system or a second video monitor for simultaneous camera views.

Addressing the challenges of inspecting corrugated metal pipe

In the city of Levis, Quebec, one section of a storm water drainage system comprised of corrugated metal pipe was identified as high concern. After a visual and acoustic assessment, two anomalies were chosen for BCT imaging.

Corrugated metal pipe (CMP) is heavily reliant on supporting soil for structural integrity. As such, a condition assessment must include an evaluation of the supporting soil to be considered complete. Previously there was no conclusive and quantifiable way to assess soil condition without damaging the pipe wall – further compromising the structural condition of the pipe.

Multi-sensor inspection robot shows benefits of pipe penetrating radar

The SewerVUE Surveyor is the first commercially-available inspection robot to use CCTV, LIDAR and PPR to inspect underground pipes.

Pipe penetrating radar (PPR), the in-pipe application of ground penetrating radar (GPR) is one of the most promising quantitative pipe condition assessment technologies to emerge in recent years. With most of the underground pipe infrastructure reaching the end of their design life there is a need to provide measurable data in order to establish the extent of rehabilitation required or the timing of replacement for large diameter critical pipe lines.

Researchers use unmanned aircraft to inspect energy pipeline route

Aerial inspection of energy pipelines is federally required in the U.S. and typically performed using manned aircraft flying at low altitudes. If validated, unmanned aircraft technologies can potentially reduce risks to pilots and the public.

The first Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership at Virginia Tech test flight using a fixed-wing unmanned aircraft to inspect an energy pipeline route – with a piloted chase plane following behind to ensure safety beyond the ground observers’ sight line – was completed on March 17. The flight was a step toward making aerial inspections of energy pipelines safer and more economical, researchers say.
